Come and think, come and chat, come and learn.
East Wing and Consultation Area
For absolute quiet and concentration, settle into one of the study carrels in the East Wing on the main floor. Each carrel has an outlet for your laptop or other device. The Consultation Area next to the main floor Information Desk is a place for you to use our research dabases and consult our Quick Reference Shelves.
Peter J. Peters Reading Room
A cozy chair, a fireplace, and a stack of the newest magazines and newspapers... What more could you ask for? The shared reading table is also an excellent place to focus or relax in utter peace and quiet, or occupy your mind at the Library's puzzle table.
Find a variety of quiet places to work and read throughout the Upper Mezzanine, including the Health & Wellness, and the Law and ESL alcove.
Located on the main floor, our newest gathering space was co-designed by members of the community. Adjacent to the Courtyard, it is bright, airy and has lots of comfortable seating – with fabric inspired by the work of B.C. Bining. Get to know a new neighbour, have a small group chat or relax with a book.
Main Hall Lounge
Meet and relax in the natural light and comfortable chairs positioned along the front windows in the Main Hall. A beautiful setting to enjoy a snack and coffee from the adjacent coffee shop, Caffination.
If you're looking for a place to work independently or share ideas, visit the Lower Level. You'll be drawn to our contemporary furniture and bright gallery walls that feature rotating art exhibitions. A soothing water wall provides a focal point for the space thanks to a bequest from Joan Creighton, who served as Director of the Foundation and Trustee of the Library Board, including the position of Chair.
Collaborative Study Booths
The Community Computing Centre on the Lower Level provides area for group study. Here you can also make use of collaborative computing equipment, which allows groups to work together on a single project; plug your laptop or tablet into our large screens and display your work to everyone at the table.
Located in the Youth Department on the second floor, the Storyhouse is a great place for group study. Help yourself to lightweight collapsible tables stored in the closet. The Library also schedules regular programs in the Storyhouse; if you're worried you may be disrupted, just ask the Youth Librarians what's planned there for the day.
Room 14 is our brand new space for teens! If you're in grades 8 to 12, come flop on the bean bags, chat with your friends, use the computers and get your homework done. There are places to study on your own and a meeting room for groups!
Youth Department Kids Area
Our second floor Youth Department is the ideal space to spend quality family time. Cuddle up together in our oversized wingback chairs to bond over a book or watch your child's imagination take flight behind our kid-sized puppet stage. There are also spaces for children and teens to lounge and work alone or in groups.
Take advantage of a sunny day while you can! Bring your books, snacks and conversation into the scenic courtyard, accessible through the Main Hall.
